Have you seen our adorable pumpkin monograms?! These gorgeous pumpkins can be customized with the initial of choice and can be decorated to fit your personal style.  You can stain your pumpkin for a rustic look, decoupage scrapbook paper onto your piece, or just paint it one simple color. That’s what we love about our unfinished pieces — letting you be the artist!

Check out our classic distressed orange pumpkin with a burlap bow (tutorial below) and our Pottery Barn inspired white and black pumpkin with a piece of burlap placed behind it.

This orange pumpkin is SO simple! Here’s a mini tutorial of how to make your very own!

Here is what you’ll need…..

  1. orange paint
  2. rag, foam or paint brush
  3. stain (you can find this at Home Depot. We like using the stain Minwax in the color ‘Early American’)
  4. several inches of burlap (or any ribbon you’d like to make your bow)
  5. Sand Paper

–To start, make sure you are working on a flat surface and that you put something such as newspaper down so you don’t get paint everywhere.

–Now take your brush and orange paint. Begin to coat the sides and entire front of the pumpkin with the paint. You many need to do two coats to make sure you have the surface covered well.

–Once that dries, take a piece of sand paper and lightly start to sand off random spots of your pumpkin. Note* When sanding, make sure you aren’t being too symmetrical.

–Once you have sanded the parts that you want, take your stain, foam brush or rag, and cover the entire sides and front of the pumpkin with a coat of the stain. Do NOT let it dry. Take an old rag and wipe off the stain. The stain will stick to the sanded down places and give it that distressed look.

–Once you have painted, sanded, stained, and wiped down your pumpkin, set it aside to completely dry. After you have let it dry, you can now add any embellishments or bows that you would like.

–In the photo above, we show a burlap bow to dress up the top of our pumpkin. You can attach the bow with wire, hot glue, or more ribbon.
